NewCircle

Project by Dotvita, 2012 - 2014

NewCircle is an experienced team of developers, instructors, and open source enthusiasts with a mission to educate the world in open source development. With tens of thousands of content items, ranging from blog posts and videos to tutorials and discussions, Dotvita was hired to completely re-think the user experience.

We started with a deep dive into the current user behavior. After researching information available on social media and Google analytics, we were able to see plenty of opportunity for improvement. We distilled the NewCirlce user down to distinct personas and then developed a new content architecture that catered to their needs.

One of the most notable changes to the site structure was the separation of NewCircle’s content into two focus areas: Free Resources and Paid Training. We made sure the search bar was positioned prominently to accommodate the mission-driven user. Using the restrictive mobile layout as our starting point, we were able to distill the page content down to it's essentials.

The Paid Training portion of the site was designed to look intentionally different from Free Resources. Generous spacing and elegant background imagery created a calm environment that felt less rational and spoke on a more emotional level.

NewCircle has been our client for over two years. The chemistry between our two companies couldn’t be better and I really enjoy working with their team.
